THE BITUMINOUS SURFACE TREATMENT OF ROADS AND PAVEMENTS

SURFACE TREATMENT CONSISTS IN THE APPLICATION OF FLUID BITUMEN TO THE SURFACE OF EXISTING ROADS OR PAVEMENTS. THE TYPE AND AMOUNT OF BITUMINOUS MATERIAL AND THE TECHNIQUE OF TREATMENT ARE DEPENDENT UPON THE NATURE OF THE SURFACE AND THE RESULTS DESIRED. ELIMINATION OF DUST, WATER-PROOFING, AND PREVENTION OF DISINTEGRATION ARE OBJECTS OF SURFACE TREATMENT. THE OBJECTS OF SURFACE TREATMENT ON THE SEVERAL TYPES OF ROADS ARE REVIEWED AND THE REQUISITE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE BITUMINOUS MATERIALS ARE DISCUSSED. /AUTHOR/
