REPORT OF COMMITTEE ON MAINTENANCE. I. MAINTENANCE OF CONCRETE PAVEMENTS

SO FAR AS PRACTICABLE, REPAIRS SHOULD BE MADE WITH QUICK SETTING CEMENT CONCRETE. THIS INVOLVES A RICH MIXTURE, THE USE OF A MINIMUM AMOUNT OF WATER, THOROUGH MIXING, THE ADMIXING OF CALCIUM CHLORIDE AND THE MAKING OF REPAIRS IN WARM WEATHER. IF CEMENT CONCRETE IS IMPRACTICABLE, BITUMINOUS MATERIALS SHOULD BE USED. THE CAUSE OF FAILURE SHOULD BE ASCERTAINED AND REMOVED BEFORE REPAIRS ARE COMPLETED. CONSTRUCTION INEQUALITIES IN THE SURFACE SHOULD BE REMOVED AT ONCE TO ENSURE A GOOD RIDING SURFACE.
