PLANNING AND PROGRAMMING HIGHWAY MAINTENANCE

APPROACHES TO PLANNING AND PROGRAMMING MAINTENANCE ARE REVIEWED AND DISCUSSED. A MAJOR REQUIREMENT OF THE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM IS A REPORTING SYSTEM THAT WILL FURNISH ALL THE INFORMATION NEEDED FOR MANAGEMENT CONTROL. A WORK- REPORTING SYSTEM DEVELOPED IN LOUISIANA IS REPORTED. THIS REPORTING SYSTEM CALLS FOR PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS REPORT, THE MAINTENANCE PERFORMANCE REPORT, THE PRODUCTIVITY ANALYSIS, AND THE MAINTENANCE QUANTITY ANALYSIS. THIS MANAGEMENT SYSTEM OF OPERATION SHOULD PROVIDE ALLOCATION OF THE PRIMARY RESOURCES OF LABOR, EQUIPMENT, AND PEOPLE TO MORE CLOSELY APPROXIMATE THE MAINTENANCE REQUIREMENTS OF THE HIGHWAY SYSTEM.
