A multi-functional approach to slope stabilisation

Slope stabilisation is an important tool for preventing collapses of embankments or cutting slopes, which can disrupt rail operations. In the UK, trials have been conducted which show that electrokinetic geosynthetics (EKG) can be used in these situations to address underlying causes, such as weak soils and poor drainage, as well as providing physical reinforcement. EKG is shown to be environmentally friendly with improved efficiency over the conventional treatment, as well as financially feasible with reduced costs.
