CHEMICAL DE-ICING AGENTS USED TO COMBAT SLIPPERY ROADS
A NEW METHOD IS DISCUSSED OF RECORDING THE RESULTS OF PRACTICAL TESTS WHICH WOULD ENABLE THE USE OF VARIOUS THAWING AGENTS TO BE COMPARED, AND WOULD PROVIDE DATA ON THE TECHNICAL AND ECONOMIC SIGNIFICANCE OF SODIUM CHLORINE AND CALCIUM CHLORIDE MIXTURES, THE REQUIREMENTS OF SCATTERING MACHINES, THE STORAGE OF DE-ICING AGENTS AND THEIR EFFECTS ON VEHICLES AND ROAD SURFACES. CONCLUSIONS REACHED WITH THE USE OF THIS METHOD WERE AS FOLLOWS: THE ACCIDENT RATE DECREASES WHEN EITHER OF THE TWO DE-ICING AGENST IS USED; NO DAMAGE IS CAUSED TO WELL DESIGNED CONCRETE ROADS OR DENSE ASPHALTIC CONCRETE SURFACINGS. /FG/RRL/
