The ITA Committee on Operational Safety of Underground Facilities (COSUF): five years of activity and cooperation with PIARC
Le Comite de la Securite en Exploitation des Ouvrages Souterrains (COSUF) de l'Aites: cinq annees d'activite et de cooperation avec l'AIPCR
The World Road Association (PIARC) has a technical committee, which is now comprised of representatives from 30 countries, that was first assembled in 1957 to study road tunnels. The committee's current title is "Road Tunnel Operations" Technical Committee (C.4) and now focuses away from the building of underground facilities and instead on all aspects related to the use of tunnels as part of road networks, specifically geometry, equipment, operations, environmental impacts, and safety - one of today's chief concerns. Another international association with a big role in the field of underground facilities is the International Tunnellling and Underground Space Association (ITA-AITES), which focuses its resources on topics related to civil engineering and design/construction techniques. The two entities together have formed a cooperative venture.
