THE SIGNIFICANCE OF SODIUM SULFATE AND FREEZING AND THAWING TESTS OF MINERAL AGGREGATES

THE COMMITTEE ON CORRELATION OF RESEARCH IN MINERAL AGGREGATES IS ENGAGED IN MAKNG A SURVEY OF THE RESULTS OF SOUNDNESS TESTS ON MINERAL AGGREGATES AS MADE IN NUMEROUS LABORATORIES, WITH THE OBJECT OF CORRELATING THESE RESULTS WITH THE DURABILITY OF THE CONCRETE IN WHICH THE AGGREGATES ARE USED. THIS PAPER PRESENTS A SUMMARY OF TESTS WITH SODIUM SULFATE AND FREEZING AND THAWING. THE SUMMARY INCLUDES ABSTRACTS OF SEVERAL PUBLISHED REPORTS AND ALSO OF SOME SPECIAL REPORTS ON SOUNDNESS TESTS BY STATE HIGHWAY DEPARTMENTS. /AUTHOR/
