NEW METHOD OF TESTING AGGREGATE DEGRAGATION /IN RUSSIAN/

A VIBRATORY CYLINDER DESIGNED TO STUDY THE WEAR OF PAVEMENT AGGREGATES IN THE LABORATORY IS DESCRIBED. THE AGGREGATE IS PLACED IN A RIGID MOULD SUBJECTED THROUGH A RUBBER CUSHION TO PRESSURES SIMILAR TO THOSE APPLIED TO A REAL PAVEMENT, AND TO VIBRATIONS OF ADJUSTABLE FREQUENCY AND AMPLITUDE. TEST RESULTS OBTAINED ARE PRESENTED. DEGREGATION DETERMINED IN THIS WAY IS COMPARABLE WITH THOSE OBTAINED IN DEVAL TESTS. THIS APPARATUS CAN BE SATISFACTORILY USED FOR STUDYING FROST SUSCEPTIBILITY OF MATERIALS; WEIGHT LOSS OBTAINED AFTER 100 CYCLES OF STANDARD FREEZING-THAWING TESTS ON HARD AND SEMI-HARD LIMESTONE IS ROUGHLY THE SAME AS THAT OBTAINED WITH THE ABOVE APPARATUS AFTER THE FOLLOWING TEST CYCLE: WATER ABSORPTION FOR 48 HOURS, FREEZING AT -20 DEGREES C FOR 4 HOURS, THAWING AT -20 DEGREES C FOR 4 HOURS AND VIBRATORY CYLINDER TEST FOR 1 HOUR. /LCPC/RRL/
