BULK HANDLING AND QUALITY EVALUATION OF POTATOES SHIPPED IN CONVEYORIZED RAILROAD CARS
Bulk shipments of potatoes in a rail car equipped with conveyors for loading and unloading offer an opportunity for labor and material savings and reduced shipping costs over the usual method of shipment in bags. Bruising from this method of handling potatoes was not excessive, and quality maintenance should compare favorably with other shipping methods. The bulk load also permits application of a gaseous inhibitor after the loading is completed.
