Implementation of Florida Department f Transportation’s TIM In ‘10 Training Program for Incident Responders

Florida’s Traffic Incident Management (TIM) Program is a successful partnership between the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) and a variety of public and private sector incident responders. These partners have championed a variety of TIM initiatives to improve responder and motorist safety, one key objective of the National Unified Goal (NUG) of the National Traffic Incident Management Coalition (NTIMC). Rising from Florida’s Open Roads Policy, the TIM in ‘10 training initiative was created to help response agencies better understand each other’s roles and responsibilities at a crash scene. The goal of TIM in ‘10 is to train every first responder in TIM Training for Responders by the end of 2010. Joint, accredited training plays an important role in the reduction of incident and roadway clearance times, two important TIM performance measures. When used in conjunction with Florida’s intelligent transportation system (ITS) technologies and other NUG objectives and strategies, responders will experience improved safety and incident coordination.
