Development of a Disaster Risk Factor Evaluation System Based on the EADaS Method

Experts know that there is an established relationship between a location's topographic and geologic features and disaster type and frequency in that location. A method has been developed through joint research by JR East and Chuo University for quantification of such relationships. The method includes qualitative knowledge for risk assessment of arbitrary natural disasters at arbitrary locations and is known as the Environment, Agent, Disaster and Structure (EADaS) method. Development of EADaS system software is currently underway. It will be used by engineers as a tool for natural disaster risk factor evaluation.
