Improving Bus Service Cost and Efficiency Using Indoor Location Systems
The transit community is beginning to use automatic vehicle location systems (AVL) and the advantages such systems provide. When buses are on the road, vehicle location systems allow transit operators to make quick changes to maintain service quality for riders. When buses are inside their parking garages, AVL allows for a number of efficiencies including maintenance, cleaning, and markup data. AVL systems can also improve on-time departures by helping to get the right buses on the right routes at the right time, even when buses are parked in long rows.
