Multimodal Transport Operator Liability Insurance Model

Multimodal transportation involves using minimally two different transportation modes for transportation between origin and destination points. Regardless of transportation vehicle type and number, only one document - and the same multimodal transportation contract - covers transportation from start to finish. The multimodal transportation operator is the key factor in optimal multimodal transportation operations. The operator is responsible for compensating for any factors relating to unpredictability, business process complexity, natural forces, and carelessness. The operator is also responsible for organizing and executing all stages of multimodal transportation. The authors examine some issues favoring a proposal to cover all transportation means and accompanying activities with a single insurance policy, due to the aforementioned areas of concern, as well as the fact that the issue of multimodal transportation operator liability insurance still is being neglected. Seventeen multimodal transportation operator liability insurance elements, as well as all values quantifying the elements in 2009, are included in the model. Projected values for 2015, the year progress is expected in areas pertaining to transit development ergonomic process implementation, and for 2025, when a period of modernization, optimization, reconstruction, and innovation is expected, are included in the model. The proposed multimodal transportation operator liability insurance model lays the foundation for actual insurance.
