EXPOSURE STUDY OF EMULSION PAINTS AS FINISHES FOR NON- FERROUS METALS

ALL MAJOR TYPES OF LATEX EMULSION PAINTS WERE WEATHERED AT 45 DEGREES SOUTH LATITUDE. LATEX PAINTS ARE UNDER TEST AS SELF-PRIMED SYSTEMS AND AS PRIMERS FOR OIL HOUSE PAINTS AND ALKYD SASH AND TRIM PAINT. THE OIL AND ALKYD PAINTS PLUS A ZINC DUST PRIMER ARE USED AS CONTROLS. THE NON-FERROUS METAL SUBSTRATES WHICH HAVE BEEN TESTED ARE GALVANIZED STEEL AND ALUMINIZED STEEL. VARIABLES COVERED ARE: SOURCE OF METAL, TYPES OF GALVANIZE, DIFFERENT MILL PASSIVATIONS, AND PREWEATHERED VERSUS UNWEATHERED METALS. THE TESTS HAVE INDICATED THAT EMULSION PAINTS ARE EXCELLENT FINISHES FOR NON-FERROUS METALS.
