Market Acceptance of Smart Growth
This study investigates if and how smart growth policies benefit a house seller in resale value and acceptance by the market. It is fairly well documented that smart growth development can benefit neighborhoods and communities by encouraging increased activity (walking and bicycling), and thus improve the health of its residents. These policies can also improve air quality by decreasing vehicle exhaust emissions, and improve environment through decreased storm water runoff. However, do the houses in smart growth developments sell well? Are the benefits of smart growth development realized in resale prices? This report attempts to answer these questions.
