A CRITICAL REVIEW OF REPRODUCIBILITY AND INTERPRETATION OF CORROSION TEST PROCEDURES

METHODS OF CORROSION TESTING ARE DESCRIBED AND ANALYZED. THE RELIABILITY AND INTERPRETATION OF SIGNIFICANT TEST VARIABLES ARE EXAMINED WITH RESPECT TO ACCURACY AND REPRODUCIBILITY. NEW TEST TECHNIQUES ARE SUGGESTED TO REMEDY SITUATIONS WHERE RESULTS ARE TYPICALLY DUBIOUS. SINCE CORROSIVE ATTACK OCCURS IN A WIDE VARIETY OF WAYS, LEAVING THE COORODED METAL DAMAGED TO A RELATIVELY INSIGNIFICANT OR SERIOUS EXTENT, A PROPER EVALUATION SHOULD ALWAYS CONSIDER THE VARIOUS WAYS IN WHICH THE METAL COULD HAVE BEEN AFFECTED. /AUTHOR/
