AN ANALYSIS OF THE THREE MATERIAL BEAM

A PLANE STRESS ELASTICITY SOLUTION TO THE SIMPLY SUPPORTED , THREE MATERIAL BEAM IS DEVELOPED. RESULTS ARE OBTAINED FOR BEAMS WHOSE DIMENSIONS AND MATERIAL PROPERTIES SIMULATE COMPOSITE BEAMS CONSISTING OF TWO MATERIALS BONDED TOGETHER BY A THIRD MATERIAL. IT IS SHOWN THAT THE ELEMENTARY FORMULAS FOR STRESSES AND DEFLECTIONS YIELD SUFFICIENTLY ACCURATE VALUES UNDER CERTAIN CONDITIONS. IN ADDITION, SLIP, A QUANTITY OFTEN MEASURED IN EXPERIMENTAL WORK, IS INFLUENCED BY MANY FACTORS, AND THEREFORE IS GENERALLY NOT RELIABLE FOR USE IN INTERPRETING TEST RESULTS. EXPERIMENTAL RESULTS ARE PRESENTED TO VERIFY THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE MATHEMATICAL SOLUTION. /AUTHOR/
