CONCEPTOS MECANICISTAS EN PAVIMENTOS
Este trabajo pretende ser una guia para todos aquellos interesados en iniciarse en la aplicacion de los llamados metodos mecanicistas para el analisis estructural y diseno de pavimentos. El enfasis se pone en la esencia de los conceptos involucrados, mas que en la definicion de formulas matematicas con muchos coeficientes de ajuste sin sentido fisico. Es al mismo tiempo una reflexion sobre las limitaciones existentes, que son muchas, a manera de estar siempre conscientes de las adecuaciones que sera necesario realizar al pasar del papel, o mas bien de la computadora, al proceso de construccion o rehabilitacion en el campo. Se incluyen figuras y conclusiones. Abstract: While previous versions of the AASHTO Guide have served well for several decades, many serious limitations exist for their continued use as the nation's primary pavement design procedures. Major limitations include traffic loading deficiencies, rehabilitation deficiencies, climatic effect deficiencies, material characterization deficiencies, and the inability to handle long-life pavement designs. Many of the deficiencies arise from the fact that the existing procedures are empirical in nature and that the designs procedures are geared more toward new pavement design than toward rehabilitation design, which takes up most of the highway budgets today. This document is a guide on the principal concepts concerning these mechanistic method, discussing the real advantages and the limitations still present. Included figures and conclusions.
