Transport and the environment - policy and economic consideration
The weaknesses of the literature on current societal policies to reduce the environmental impact of transport are debated. These include avoidance of dramatic changes, a limited time horizon of analysis, and limited analysis of middle income countries. While transport policy in many countries has moved away from predict and provide to restraining demand, this has has a limited impact in many countries. As well as policy development, it is considered necessary to initiate social and economic policies that will bring about results. It is recognised that it will take time to bring about change to low emission transport because of the large stocks of vehicles and infrastructure that already exist.
