TESTS ON WEAR UNDER THE ACTION OF STUDDED TYRES AND HEAVY LORRIES

THE PARAMETERS RELATED TO THE AGGRESSIVENESS OF STUDS IS EXAMINED AND THE GUIDELINES FOR THE RESEARCH REQUIRED FOR REDUCING THESE PARAMETERS ARE DEFINED. THE IMPACT HYPOTHESIS AND PRESSURE HYPOTHESIS ARE REVIEWED IN RELATION TO STRAIGHT DRIVING. EMERGENCY BRAKING AND THE ACTION ON THE PAVEMENT ARE OTHER ASPECTS REVIEWED. FRENCH EXPERIMENTS ON TRAFFIC SIMULATOR AND BRAKING WEAR ARE OUTLINED AND TEST RESULTS ARE GIVEN. THE EQUIPMENT USED IN MERRY-GO-ROUND TESTS ARE DESCRIBED, AS ARE ALSO THE PAVEMENTS THAT WERE STUDIED. THE RESULTS OF THE TESTS ARE PRESENTED AND INTERPRETED. RESISTANT FORMULATIONS ARE DESCRIBED AND THE THEORETICAL WEAR FOR VARIOUS HYPOTHESES IS DISCUSSED. CONCLUSIONS BASED ON THE STUDY ARE PRESENTED.
