POLLUTION AT THE SOUTHERN END OF LAKE MICHIGAN

Discussion of water quality and pollution problems of Lake Michigan in the Chicago area is based essentially on data presented on the water pollution conferences held to establish water quality for this region. It is summarized that water quality at the southern end of Lake Michigan has deteriorated because of plankton nuisances and tastes and odors, all in turn due to increases in industrial wastes. Until waste quantities are reduced, there is little chance to improve raw-water quality.
