DETAILS ARE GIVEN OF THE TRAINING OF PERSONNEL ESPECIALLY FOR AVALANCHE SERVICE IN GRAUBUNDEN, WHICH HAS A MOUNTAIN ROAD NETWORK OF ABOUT 1.350 KM THAT HAS TO BE KEPT OPEN IN WINTER, AND WHICH HAS A LARGE AREA WHERE AVALANCHES ARE PRONE TO OCCUR. PROTECTION AGAINST AVALANCHES IS PROVIDED BY STRUCTURES SUCH AS AVALANCHE GALLERIES.
