FATIGUE FAILURE IN WELDED STUD CONNECTORS
WELDED STUD AS A FLEXIBLE SHEAR CONNECTOR IN COMPOSITE CONSTRUCTION FAILS DUE TO FATIGUE WHEN REPEATED LOADING IS APPLIED. USING A METALLURGICAL APPROACH, AN ATTEMPT WAS MADE TO ESTABLISH THE CRITICAL FACTORS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE FAILURE. THE INVESTIGATION CONCLUDES THAT THE CONTROLLING PARAMETER IS THE FATIGUE PROPAGATION RATE IN THE TOP FLANGE OF THE BEAM ITSELF AND NOT IN THE STUD MATERIAL OR IN THE WELDED ZONE. /AUTHOR/
