ON THE ERRORS IN EXPERIMENTAL MEASUREMENTS OF STRAINS IN CONCRETE AND PRESTRESSED CONCRETE ELEMENTS

THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE MATHEMATICAL THEORY OF ERRORS DOES NOT CORRESPOND TO ITS APPLICATION IN THE FIELD OF DEFORMATION MEASUREMENT. ERRORS IN CALCULATED MEASUREMENTS AND FINITE VALUES ARE ONLY RARELY TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT IN THE ANALYSIS OF EXPERIMENTAL RESULTS. THIS IS A PROBLEM OF GREAT PRACTICAL USE, APPLICATIONS OF WHICH ARE GIVEN IN THIS ARTICLE. THE STUDY IS BASED ON THE DETERMINATION OF A FUNDAMENTAL ERROR WHICH CAN BE DEFINED FROM THE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE MEASURING APPARATUS USED. THEN, BY MEANS OF SIMPLE MATHEMATICAL CALCULATIONS, ERRORS IN THE MAIN DEFORMATIONS, WHICH ARE NOT DIRECTLY MEASURED, ARE EXPRESSED IN THE FORM OF A DIFFERENTIAL EQUATION. THIS ANALYSIS GIVES THE EXTREME VALUES OF POSSIBLE ERRORS AS A FUNCTION OF THE STATES OF DEFORMATION AND MEASURING APPARATUS. EXAMPLES OF APPLICATION OF ERROR FORMULAE ARE GIVEN. THE PROPOSED METHOD IS APPLICABLE TO THE ANALYSIS OF RESULTS OF MEASUREMENTS TAKEN ON CONCRETE AND PRESTRESSED CONCRETE MEMBERS. /IRRD-IRF/
