DEVELOPING COST YARDSTICKS FROM PARAMETERS

AN ARCHITECTURAL CONSULTING FIRM HAS DEVELOPED A CONSTRUCTION COST BUDGETING SYSTEM THAT USES ENR COST PARAMETERS TO DEVELOP YARDSTICKS FOR DESIGN COST CONTROL AND CHECK FINAL COST ESTIMATES. BY EXTENSION OF THE PARAMENTERS DECIDED UPON, COST BUDGETS FOR EACH OF THE DESIGN DISCIPLINES CAN BE DETERMINED. DURING ALL PHASES OF DESIGN, IT WILL BE REQUIRED THAT EACH DISCIPLINE CONTROL ITS COST BUDGET TO ASSURE THAT THE COST TARGETS LISTED ARE NOT EXCEEDED. IN THE EARLY SCHEMATIC DESIGN STAGE, DESIGN ESTIMATES ARE IMPRACTICAL, BUT COMPARATIVE COST VALUE ENGINEERING CAN BE APPLIED. A DETAILED EXAMPLE IS PROVIDED WITH TABLES.
