A DISCUSSION OF JOINT DESIGN GIVES CONSIDERATION TO ASPECTS SUCH AS ANTICIPATED MOVEMENT, LOAD TRANSFER, SKEWED AND RANDOMLY SPACED JOINTS, SLAB SUPPORT, PAVEMENT THICKNESS, TRAFFIC, LONGITUDING JOINTS, BRIDGE APPROACH JOINTS, SEALANTS AND RESERVOIRS. DETAILS ARE GIVEN OF JOINT CONSTRUCTION, JOINT PROBLEMS AND PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE. THE STATE OF PRESENT RESEARCH ON THE SUBJECT IS OUTLINED AND THE SCOPE FOR FUTURE RESEARCH IS INDICATED.
