MODIFIED HULL FORMS TO SUIT THE LARGE DIESEL ENGINE

The factors permitting short engine rooms in diesel powered oil tankers, bulk carriers and other large special ships are discussed, including advantages of twin-screw vs single-screw installations, degree of fullness of the aft hull, the use of stern tube pods, and catamaran type hulls. Five different twin-screw arrangements are illustrated and compared.
