Transportation Greenhouse Gas Emissions in Universities: Role of American College and University Presidents' Climate Change Commitment
Universities are increasingly concerned about their environmental impacts and their contribution to emissions related to climate change. This paper discusses the role of transportation related emissions in the American College and University Presidents’ Climate Commitment, analyzing how public transit strategy addressed in the pact and that strategy’s contribution to its goals. No significant difference was identified between the amount of commuting emissions from institutions that reported adopting the transportation strategy and those that did not. Research results underscored the importance of a mix of strategies rather than a single solution in the quest to mitigate mobile source contributions to greenhouse gases and proposed policy revisions.
