ORIGIN, DIFFUSION, ACCEPTANCE AND/OR REJECTION OF THE SLOW MOVING VEHICLE EMBLEM

THE HISTORICAL DEVELOPMENT, DIFFUSSION AND THE CAMPAIGN TO GAIN ACCEPTANCE OF THE EMBLEM IS DESCRIBED. EMPHASIS IS PLACED ON THE INTRODUCTION, INTEREST, TRIAL AND ACCEPTANCE REJECTION CHAIN OF EVENTS, ESPECIALLY FOR FARMERS. USE OF THE MASS MEDIA IN INTRODUCTING THE SMV EMBLEM IS DISCUSSED. ACCIDENT RATES CITED FOR VARIOUS STATES SHOW A FAVORABLE DECLINE FOR DERTAIN TYPE ACCIDENTS AFTER THE INTRODUCTION OF THE SMV EMBLEM. /SRIS/
