WINDSHIELD OPTICS

UNDESIRABLE OPTICAL EFFECTS ARISE FROM WINDSHIELD DESIGN, SUCH AS DOUBLE IMAGES, DISTORTION, ASTIGMATISM, AND DIFFERENTIAL DEVIATION OF LINE OF SIGHT. THE FACTORS CAUSING THESE EFFECTS ARE UNDERSTOOD AND MEANS OF CONTROL ARE UNDER DEVELOPMENT TO ELIMINATE THEM FROM FUTURE GLASS DESIGNS. THE OPTICAL FACTORS WHICH CAUSE PROBLEMS INCLUDE CURVATURE, TILT ANGLE, WEDGE, ANGLE OF VIEW, THICKNESS, AND REFRACTIVE INDEX OF THE GLASS. /HSL/
