THE ECONOMICS OF HEAVY CONSTRUCTION EQUIPMENT STANDARDIZATION

THE PROBLEM OF STANDARDIZATION OF HEAVY CONSTRUCTION EQUIPMENT IS ANALYZED FROM THE VIEWPOINT OF A MEDIUM-SIZED HEAVY CONSTRUCTION COMPANY AND AS VIEWED BY CERTAIN GOVERNMENT ORGANIZATIONS. IT IS HOPED THAT THIS ANALYSIS WILL ACCOMPLISH TWO OBJECTIVES' /1/ DEVELOP THE SIGNIFICANT FACTORS AND VARIABLES WHICH AFFECT FAMILY STANDARDIZATION OF HEAVY CONSTRUCTION EQUIPMENT, AND /2/ OUTLINE A METHOD OF ANALYSIS WHICH CONTRACTORS CAN USE TO IMPROVE THEIR EQUIPMENT POLICY. IT IS CONCLUDED THAT STANDARDIZATION OF EQUIPMENT WILL RESULT IN INCREASED PROFITS, THEREFORE, A FORMAL PROCEDURE SHOULD BE SET UP IN EACH CONSTRUCTION COMPANY TO ANALYZE THE BENEFITS AND SPECIFY THE METHOD OF IMPLEMENTATION OF A FAMILY STANDARDIZATION POLICY ON EACH PROJECT.
