CONCRETE PAVEMENT MAINTENANCE /IN PORTUGUESE/

CAUSES OF CONCRETE PAVEMENT DISTRESS AND THE DIVERSE DAMAGE TYPES ARE PRESENTED WITH EXPLANATIONS ON THE CARE THAT MUST BE TAKEN TO AVOID THESE DEFECTS. THE MEANS AND METHODS TO REPAIR THESE DAMAGES ARE ALSO PRESENTED, WITH EMPHASIS ON APPROVED REPAIR METHODS FOR CONCRETE SLABS THAT MUST BE TOTALLY OR PARTIALLY REMOVED. THE RECONSTTITUTION (PARTIAL OR TOTAL) AND SUBDIVISION METHODS CONSIST IN RETURNING THE DAMAGED PAVEMENT TO ITS ORIGINAL FORM. BY MAINTAINING THE ORIGINAL DIMENSIONS OF EACH CONCRETE SLAB, AND ALSO REPAIRING THE JOINTS BUT MAINTAINING THEM IN THEIR DUE PLACES, IT IS POSSIBLE TO HAVE A PAVEMENT WITH A GLOBAL ASPECT SIMILAR TO THE ONE IT HAD BEFORE DAMAGE. SPECIFIC TECHNICAL CARE MUST BE TAKEN, ESPECIALLY IN THE APPLICATION OF THE RECONSTITUTION METHOD, WHERE NEW AND OLD CONCRETE ARE MAINTAINED TOGETHER WITHOUT ANY JOINT. THE REUSE OF FLEXIBLE AND RIGID PAVEMENTS IS DISCUSSED. /RRI/
