Road Asset Management and Transportation of Hazardous Materials
Hazardous materials response policies, procedures and risk management can enable the accurate identification of hazardous materials, inform further response and minimize risks. The main objectives of this work have been to upgrade a device to test hot mix asphalt (HMA) chemical resistance and the assessment of a prototypical catalogue of HMA types in function of the chemical resistance, to be used in areas when conditions of high vulnerability or/and high probability do occur, in order to mitigate risks. Three lots of OGFCs (Open - Graded Friction Courses) have been tested and chemical resistance was assessed through the use of a Brush tester, according to the procedures set up in the EN standard 12697-43:2005. On the other hand, some modifications have been introduced in order to point out the relevance of bulk properties and risk management in mitigating the magnitude of fuel spillage risk. Recommendations, limitations and prospective for practical applications have been proposed. For the covering abstract see ITRD E144473.
