WILL ARTIFICIAL AGGREGATES TAKE THE PLACE OF NATURAL AGGREGATES? /IN FRENCH/

THE BEST NATURAL AGGREGATES INCREASINGLY FAIL TO SATISFY THE THREE ESSENTIAL NONSKID CONDITIONS AT HIGH SPEEDS OVER A FAIRLY LONG PERIOD: SUFFICIENT SURFACE MACRORUGOSITY, ENSURING RAPID RUNOFF OF RAINWATER, THE PRESENCE OF SHARPEDGED AGGREGATES, AND A SURFACE WHICH DOES NOT ACQUIRE A CERTAIN MICRORUGOSITY (SMOOTHNESS) TOO RAPIDLY. SOME TRENDS ARE PRESENTED RELATING TO THE USE OF ARTIFICIAL AGGREGATES (CALCINED BAUXITE, CERAMICS, SPECIAL CAST IRON, AND PLASTICS) AND THE DEVELOPMENT OF NEW BINDERS, EITHER COMPLETELY SYNTHETIC OR INCORPORATING RESINS. THE AUTHOR CONCLUDES THAT THESE NEW MATERIALS, AGGREGATES AND FILMS WILL BE APPLICABLE IN THE NEAR FUTURE ONLY TO THE ACTUAL ROAD SURFACE AND TO A SHALLOW DEPTH. /AUTHOR/
