THEORY OF ICE DRIFT ON A HORIZONTALLY UNIFORM SEA

K TEORII DREYFA L'DA V GORIZONTAL'NO-ODNORODNOM MORE

A system of equations of motion is derived for free-floating ice and the upper horizon of the sea taking into account the equations of energy balance of the turbulence and the density diffusion in the seawater. Formulas are adapted to the case of free wind-drift of icefields. The process of equation solution is described and adapted to Arctic Basin conditions. The results are represented graphically. The theoretical results are compared with observational data from the Sedov and drifting stations North Pole 2, 3, 4 and 5, and comparison of computed and observed wind coefficients is shown in a table and graphs.
