THERMOPLASTIC PIPING FOR POTABLE WATER DISTRIBUTION SYSTEMS

THE OBJECTIVES ARE TO PRESENT CRITERIA THAT FEDERAL CONSTRUCTION AGENCIES CAN USE IN DETERMINING THE SUITABILITY OF THERMOPLASTIC PIPING FOR USE IN POTABLE WATER DISTRIBUTION SYSTEMS AND TO PROVIDE GUIDANCE FOR THE DESIGN AND INSTALLATION OF THERMOPLASTIC PIPING. THE CRITERIA ARE (1) PERFORMANCE-BASED ON THE EXPECTED LIFE OF OTHER MATERIALS SUCH AS PIPES AND FITTINGS, (THE THERMOPLASTIC PIPING IS CONSIDERED AS A COMPONENT OF TH GENERAL SYSTEM) AND THE STANDARDS REQUIRED OF OTHER MATERIALS, SUCH AS THERMAL AND CHEMICAL REQUIREMENTS, SHOULD BE MET. (2) DESIGN - BASED ON THE PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS, WHICH DEPEND ON THE VARIOUS KINDS OF MATERIALS USED IN THERMOPLASTICS, AFFECTING SIZES, DESIGNS, AND COSTS OF PIPES; ALSO FLEXIBILITY, HYDROSTATIC PRESSURE, NEGATIVE PRESSURE, AND THERMAL CONTRACTION AND EXPANSION ARE COVERED.
