THE INHIBITORY EFFECT OF FLY ASH WITH RESPECT TO THE CORROSION OF STEEL IN CONCRETES

EXPERIMENTS WERE CONDUCTED THAT SHOWED THAT COAL FLY ASH ACTS AS AN INHIBITOR OF CORROSION IF IT IS STIMULATED HYDRAULICALLY BY LIME ADDITION TO THE CONCRETE OR LIME PRODUCED BY HYDRATION OF PORTLAND CEMENT HAVING A LARGE QUANTITY OF ALITE (CEMENT-ASH RATIO OF 1 TO 5). IN ALL CASES WHEN FLY ASH IS STIMULATED HYDRAULICALLY, IT ACTS AS AN INHIBITOR OF CORROSION. /AUTHOR/
