USE OF CORROSION INHIBITORS IN PROTECTING STEEL IMBEDDED IN CONCRETE

AN EXPERIMENTAL STUDY WAS CARRIED OUT WITH THE PURPOSE OF STUDYING THE BEHAVIOR OF SOME INHIBITORS ADDED TO THE CONCRETE IN ORDER TO PREVENT CORROSION OF STEEL REINFORCEMENT. SAMPLES PREPARED WITH 3 DIFFERENT CEMENT SAMPLES, EITHER ALONE OR CONTAINING CALCIUM CHLORIDE OR CALCIUM CHLORIDE INHIBITOR WERE TESTED. THE RESULTS SHOW THE POSSIBILITY OF USING SODIUM NITRIDE AND POTASSIUM CHROMATE TO REDUCE CORROSION DAMAGE OF STEEL EMBEDDED IN CONCRETES CONTAINING CALCIUM CHLORIDE. THE SMALL AMOUNT OF INHIBITOR USED DID NOT AFFECT THE MECHANICAL RESISTANCE OF CONCRETE. /AUTHOR/
