THE CURRENT STATE OF KNOWLEDGE IN EUROPE IS REVIEWED ON METHODS OF REPAIRING TRANSVERSE CRACKS IN CONCRETE SLABS BEFORE THEY ARE PUT INTO SERVICE. ACCORDING TO SPECIFICATIONS 108 DRAWN UP IN 1961, ANY SLAB WITH A CRACK OVER 1 METER LONG BETWEEN ANY TWO EDGES OF THE SLAB MUST REPLACED BY THE CONTRACTOR. IN FACT, A SATISFACTORILY REPAIRED SLAB TENDS TO BE ACCEPTED BY THE ADMINISTRATION. THE CENTRE DE RECHERCHES ROUTIERES COLLECTED A COMPREHENSIVE BIBLIOGRAPHY IN ORDER TO DEFINE METHODS TO ADOPT FOR REPAIRING ACTIVE OR PASSIVE CRACKS (ACTIVE CRACKS HAVE A VARIATION IN WIDTH GREATER THAN 0.5MM. WHEN THE AVERAGE DAILY VARIATION IN CONCRETE TEMPERATURE IS 10 C, PASSIVE CRACKS HAVE A VARIATION LESS THAN 0.5MM) TAKING INTO ACCOUNT THE PRESENCE OF NEARBY EXPANSION JOINTS, DIFFERENCE IN LEVEL AT REPAIR JOINT, EVENNESS OF THE REPAIRED SURFACE, IMPERVIOUSNESS IN REPAIR JOINTS, LOAD TRANSFER TO OTHER JOINTS NEAR THE CRACK AND RIGIDITY OF THE FOUNDATION. /CRIC/FESR/LCPC/RRL/
