THE INFLUENCE OF CALCIUM CHLORIDE ON THE CORRISION OF BARS IN PRESTRESSED CONCRETE /IN ITALIAN/

TESTS CARRIED OUT TO STUDY THE CORROSION PROCESS OF REINFORCEMENT IN PRESTRESSED CONCRETE ARE DESCRIBED. SPONTANEOUS TENSIONS WERE MEASURED AND POLARIZATION CURVES WERE DETERMINED FOR TENSIONED BARS IN METAL FRAMES ENCASED IN CEMENT MORTARS WITH OR WITHOUT CALCIUM CHLORIDE. AT THE END OF THE TESTS, THE TENSILE STRENGTH OF THE BARS WAS DETERMINED. RESULTS SHOW THAT THE CORROSIVE EFFECT OF CHLORIDE TAKES PLACE ONLY AT THE BEGINNING OF CURING AND DOES NOT INFLUENCE THE PROPERTIES OF THE BARS. THE AUTHORS PROPOSE A THEORY EXPLAINING WHY BARS ARE SUBJECT TO PASSIVATION EVEN WHEN IN CONTACT WITH LARGE CONCENTRATIONS OF CL ION. /RRL/LCPC/A/
