SIDE LOOK RADAR

SIDE LOOK RADAR IS: AN AIRBORNE RADAR TECHNIQUE UTILIZING A NARROW BEAM OF PULSED MICROWAVE ENERGY THAT LOOKS OUT TO THE SIDE OF THE AIRCRAFT, A RADAR TECHNIQUE IN WHICH THE FORWARD MOTION OF THE AIRCRAFT SWEEPS THE BEAM ACROSS THE SURFACE OF THE EARTH, AND A RADAR TECHNIQUE WHEREIN THE RADAR RETURNS WITHIN THE NARROW BEAM ARE IMAGED ON A PHOTOGRAPHIC FILM TO PRODUCE A STRIP MAP. SINCE RADAR IS AN ACTIVE SYSTEM PROVIDING ITS OWN ILLUMINATION, THE SYSTEM CAN FUNCTION 24-HOURS PER DAY AND SUN ANGLE IS NOT A CONSIDERATION IN OPERATION. SIDE LOOK RADAR CAN READILY IDENTIFY GEOLOGICAL FEATURES, SOIL TYPES, AGRICULTURAL AREAS AND IS USEFUL FOR PETROLEUM EXPLORATION, MINERALS EXPLORATION AND SEA ICE MAPPING. THE DEVELOPMENT AND APPLICATIONS OF THIS SYSTEM ARE DESCRIBED.
