EUROPEAN RESEARCH ON RUST INHIBITIVE COATINGS

A BRIEF REVIEW IS GIVEN OF EUROPEAN RESEARCH TO DEVELOP MORE DURABLE AND EFFECTIVE RUST INHIBITIVE WHICH HAS PRODUCED A NUMBER OF VERY VALUABLE NEW COATINGS AND HAS LED TO A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF THE CAUSES AND CONTROL OF CORROSION. MENTION IS MADE TO THE GOOD ADHESION, RUST INHIBITION, AND WELD-THROUGH CHARACTERISTICS OF ZINC DUST 'SHOP PRIMERS', AND THE ADVANTAGES ARE STRESSED OF PREVENTING CORROSION BY THE USE OF LEAD POWDER PRIMERS, WHICH HAVE A HIGH RESISTANCE AGAINST CHEMICAL AGGRESSION. THE USE OF ORGANIC COATINGS FOR THE PROTECTION OF GALVANIZED STEEL IS REPORTED TO BE FINDING INCREASING APPLICATION AND THE USE OF CADMIUM FOR THE SACRIFICIAL PROTECTION OF IRON IS ALSO NOTED. /AUTHOR/
