PERFORMANCE REPORT ON THERMOPLASTIC STRIPING

THE PERFORMANCE OF THERMOPLASTIC STRIPING AND STANDARD CENTERLINE PAINT WAS OBSERVED ON STATE HIGHWAYS IN MISSISSIPPI. THE LIFE EXPECTANCY OF THERMOPLASTIC STRIPING WAS PLACED AT SEVEN YEARS ON HEAVILY TRAVELLED HIGHWAYS. RENEWAL OF CENTERLINE PAINT IS REQUIRED EVERY SIX TO EIGHT MONTHS TO MAINTAIN AN EFFECTIVE LINE. COST COMPARISON SHOWS THAT' /1/ THERMOPLASTIC IS AN ADEQUATE AND DURABLE REFLECTORIZED STRIPING MATERIAL, /2/ THERMOPLASTIC PERFORMS WELL AT NIGHT, DURING RAIN AND ASSOCIATED CONDITIONS OF POOR VISIBILITY, /3/ SERVICE LIFE OF THERMOPLASTIC IS GREATER, THEREBY FREEING THE TRAVELLING PUBLIC FROM ANNOYANCE ATTENDANT TO STRIPING, AND /4/ THERMOPLASTIC STRIPING IS ACTUALLY CHEAPER THAN CONVENTIONAL PAINTS ON HIGH TRAFFIC VOLUME ROADS OVER A SEVEN-YEAR PERIOD.
