SP'S DREAM YARD
SP is in the advanced stages of planning for its proposed yard at West Colton California. In planning the yard, the study team broke away from traditional yard design and hopefully with their accompanying deficiencies and bottlenecks. The goal is a throughput over the hump of 8 cars per minute as compared to 3 or 4 per minute with present designs. The yard also incorporates a patented "key system" design which combines classification and departure yard (two groups of 24 bowl tracks each have their four center tracks on 17-foot centers extending to form the departure yard.)
