DRIVING WITH METHANE

AS A COMPROMISE TO THE ABANDONMENT OF THE INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE TO CONTROL AIR POLLUTION, A DUAL-FUEL SYSTEM IS DESCRIBED WHEREBY CARS, TRUCKS AND BUSES HAVE THE OPTION OF OPERATING EITHER ON GASOLINE OR COMPRESSED NATURAL GAS (METHANE). THERE ARE THREE MAIN PARTS TO THE SYSTEM: THE CYLINDERS OF COMPRESSED GAS, THE REGULATOR, AND THE GAS-AIR MIXER. THE PRESSURE CYLINDERS RANGE FROM 30 POUND UNITS CONTAINING 100 CUBIC FEET OF GAS TO 100 POUND UNITS CONTAINING 300 CUBIC FEET. THE FUNCTION OF THE REGULATOR IS TO REDUCE THE PRESSURE OF THE GAS COMING FROM THE CYLINDER SO THAT IT CAN BE FED INTO THE GAS-AIR MIXER MOUNTED ON TOP OF THE CARBURATOR. THE MIXER, THE HEART OF THE SYSTEM, IS THE EQUIVALENT OF THE CARBURATOR AND AIR FILTER. CONVERTING TO THE SYSTEM IS AN EASY MATTER.
