A CHOICE OF ROAD HEATING EQUIPMENT

TWO FORMS OF HEATING INSTALLATION ARE USED IN BRITAIN, ONE USING INSULATED HEATING ELEMENTS OPERATING AT MEDIUM VOLTAGE (240V) AND THE OTHER USING UNINSULATED STEEL ELEMENTS CARRYING COMPARATIVELY HIGH CURRENTS AT LOW VOLTAGE (55V). METHODS OF INSTALLATION IN DIFFERENT TYPES OF SURFACING, CONTROL AND COSTS ARE REVIEWED. REFERENCE IS MADE TO ALTERNATIVE METHODS USED IN OTHER COUNTRIES. /RRL/
