THE STRENGTHENING OF FLEXIBLE PAVEMENTS BY THE COLAS EXPERIMENTAL METHOD /IN FRENCH/

THIS METHOD IS SATISFACTORY ONLY FOR STRENGTHENING GRANULAR FLEXIBLE ROADS, AND HIGH-QUALITY BITUMINOUS MIXTURES MUST BE USED. THE PROCESS CAN BE IMPROVED BY THE USE OF STATISTICAL METHODS. THE AUTHORS DEFINE A COEFFICIENT "P" - THE POWER OF REINFORCEMENT, WHICH DEPENDS ON THE "EFFICIENCY" OF THE BITUMINOUS MIXTURE AND WHICH IS INCLUDED IN THE PROPOSED FORMULA. THE METHOD OF MEASURING THE DEFLECTIONS, THE CHOICE OF P, TRAFFIC DATA, LIFE-TIME OF SURFACING, ETC., ARE DISCUSSED, IN ORDER TO FACILITATE THE NUMERICAL APPLICATIONS. FOR THE PRESENT, IT IS NECESSARY TO CONSTRUCT AN EXPERIMENTAL LAYER, WELL-COMPACTED, 10 TO 15 CM THICK. THIS IS THE ONLY METHOD WHICH ENABLES THE PROPERTIES OF THE MATERIALS USED AND THE QUALITY OF THE EXISTING ROAD TO BE TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT. /LCPC/VSS/RRL/
