PREVENTING VEHICLE CORROSION
DETERIORATION OF VEHICLES DUE TO METAL CORROSION IS COSTLY. THE ONTARIO HYDRO HAS A FLEET OF 1600 VEHICLES AND HAS BEEN INVESTIGATING WAYS OF PROLONGING THEIR SERVICE LIFE AND PREVENT A GREAT AMOUNT OF DEPRECIATION. A DIFFICULTY IN PROTECTION IS THAT METALS CORRODE NOT ONLY SURFICIALLY BUT INTERIORALLY. FOUR TYPES OF PROTECTIVE COATINGS WERE EVALUATED BY ONTARIO HYDRO' OIL-BASED, WAX- BASED, ASPHALTIC, RUBBER-BASED. IT WAS FOUND THAT A BLENDED WAX WAS BEST. IN ADDITION, FREQUENT WASHING OF VEHICLES AIDED CORROSION PREVENTION. /CGRA/
