BLAST-FURNACE GRANULAR SLAG IS A TRUE HYDRAULIC BINDER THE CHARACTERISTIC PROPERTIES OF WHICH ARE PARTICULARLY ADAPTED TO THE TREATMENT OF GRANULATES FOR ROAD-BEDS. AFTER DEFINING THE GRAVEL-SLAGS AND THE SAND-SLAGS AS MIXTURES MADE IN THE PLANT WITH A HIGH PROPORTION OF FRESHLY MADE GRANULAR SLAG ACTIVATED BY A BASAL CATALYSER (RICH LIME) AND COMPARING THEM TO UNTREATED GRAVELS AND GRAVEL-CEMENTS, THE AUTHOR STRESSES THE ORIGINAL PROPERTIES OF THE TREATMENT: A GREAT HOMOGENEITY DUE TO A HIGH PROPORTION OF BINDER, A GOOD GRAIN SIZE AND ANGULARITY OF THE BASIC GRANULATES, A HIGH INSENSITIVITY TO EXCESSES OF WATER OR TO FROST, A VERY SLOW SETTING IN THE EARLY STAGE GIVING THE JOB SITES GREAT FLEXIBILITY, A PROGRESSIVE HARDENING AVOIDING ANY DISPARITY IN RIGIDITY IN RELATION TO THE OLD PAVEMENT. VARIOUS PARAMETERS ARE REVIEWED THAT INFLUENCE THE COMPRESSIVE AND TENSILE STRENGTHS OF THE GRAVEL-SLAGS AND SAND-SLAGS AS FOR EXAMPLE BATCHING AND QUALITY OF THE GRANULAR SLAG, MINERALOGICAL NATURE AND GRANULARITY OF THE GRANULATES, BATCHING AND QUALITY OF THE BASE CATALYSER, TIME AND TEMPERATURE OF CURING OF TEST PIECES, DENSITY AND INTENSITY OF COMPACTING. /AUTHOR/
