THE RESAL EFFECT. THEORETICAL ASPECTS

EFFECT RESAL - QUELQUES ELEMENTS THEORIQUES.

AN ATTEMPT IS MADE TO USE THE THEORY OF REDUCED SHEAR AND TO COMPARE THE RESULTS OBTAINED WITH THOSE OF THE ELASTIC THEORY AND WITH THE EXPERIMENTAL RESULTS OBTAINED WITH A PHOTOELASTIC MODEL. THE RESULTS ARE ALSO COMPARED WITH THOSE OF APPROXIMATE CALCULATION METHODS USED IN SOME ENGINEERING FIRMS. SOME MARKED DIVERGENCES ARE SOMETIMES OBSERVED BETWEEN THE VARIOUS RESULTS, AND IT IS OBSERVED THAT PHOTOELASTIC RESULTS AGREE ON AVERAGE WITH THE RESULTS OBTAINED WITH THE METHOD NORMALLY USED BY THE SETRA, BUT GIVE PROPORTIONAL VALUES ONLY WHEN COMPARED WITH THOSE REACHED WITH THE METHOD OF CALCULATION PROPOSED IN THE REPORT (COEFFICIENT OF THE ORDER OF 0,8). IT IS POSSIBLE TO CONCLUDE THAT THE REDUCTION EFFECT OF SHEAR DUE TO A PROGRESSIVE VARIATION IN THE HEIGHT OF THE WEB EXISTS, BUT THAT ADDITIONAL TESTS ARE STILL NECESSARY TO DETERMINE THE OPTIMUM METHODS OF CALCULATION.
